HOLIDAY, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A 65-year-old mother claims that her Pasco County son hit her in the head with a glass eggnog bottle and a metal oxygen tank, and struck her several times with a stun gun.

Ramey Newkirk, 45, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated battery for allegedly physically abusing his mother.

Pasco County police responded to a call from one of the mother’s neighbors, saying she told the neighbor that Newkirk had beaten her. Newkirk’s mother, who had bruises on her face when she met with police, told authorities that she was reluctant to tell the authorities as she indicated that he threatened to kill her if she told them, WTSP reports.

Eventually, she admitted to police that her son hit her with a glass eggnog bottle the week before, adding that Newkirk also hit her head with a metal oxygen tank and struck her a few times with a stun gun.

But Newkirk originally refuted the claims, telling police that his mother sustained those injuries from a robbery that took place on her porch a week prior, adding she never reported it because she didn’t want to be bothered with the incident. He would later admit to hitting his mother with the eggnog bottle, telling police he blacked out, remaining unsure why he did that.

In addition to the aggravated battery charge, Newkirk faces additional charges of tampering with a witness and grand theft. The bond for the aggravated assault charge was set at $20,000, while the tampering and grand theft charges had bonds of $5,000 and $2,000, respectively.

A Pasco County Jail official told CBS Tampa that Newkirk remains in custody. No court date has been scheduled to this point.
