LAKE HAMILTON, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say two people were killed and several others were injured in a central Florida traffic crash.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reports that two pickups collided Wednesday night after a Ford Explorer turned into the path of a Ford F-250.

A passenger in the Explorer, 46-year-old Elaine Johnson Barnes, died at the scene. The vehicle’s driver, 57-year-old James Carl Payne Jr., was airlifted to a Lakelandhospital and later died. Two passengers in that truck were also airlifted to the Lakelandhospital in critical condition.

The F-250’s driver and passenger both sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
