Pilot, passenger escape burning plane in Fla.

BARTOW, Fla. (AP) — A single engine plane has burst into flames after crashing along a highway in southwest Florida.

Polk County Fire Rescue officials worked to extinguish the blaze Saturday. The pilot and passenger escaped and were airlifted to the hospital. Their condition was not known.

The National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating.
