Man Drives To Tampa Police Station Carrying Dead Body In Trunk

TAMPA, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A man drives to a Tampa police station carrying a dead body in the trunk of a car.

The driver of the Mercury Grand Marquis called 911 on Tuesday afternoon to alert authorities that he was driving to the police station with a body in the trunk of the car. When he arrived, he honked his horn and an officer was waiting, soon finding the body in the trunk, according to police.

The man told police that the car was not his.

Tampa police spokeswoman Andrea Davis estimated that the body had been in the trunk for at least a day, indicating that there were initial signs of decomposition.

Tampa police told CBS Tampa that the medical examiner is conducting an autopsy on the body of the man found in order to determine the cause of death. The body’s decomposition is making identifying the body take longer than usual, although police look to confirm an identity later today.

“Clearly this is something unusual, this is something you’d expect to see on an episode of CSI or a movie,” Davis told Bay News 9, “not something you expect to see in your hometown.”
