Treasure Island, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – It takes 150 tons of sand, 10 master sculptures, and 24 hours for them to create the masterpieces you will see at Treasure Island’s Professional Sand Sculpting Competition & Music Festival this weekend, November 17-20.

Season 8 American Idol contestant and all around nice guy Danny Gokey will be performing on Friday night and Country Station WQYK will be on hand as well.

Here is the schedule.

Wednesday 8AM to 5PM
This day is a set up for the competition. It’s called the “pound-up”. The sculptors shovel several tons of sand into wood or plastic frames. The forms, which are similar to concrete forms, are assembled the night before a contest begins, this work is allowed “off-the-clock” and not part of the actual competition itself.

Wednesday 7PM – till midnight
After the all-day pound-up you can hang with the sculptors at a casual get together at Crystal Sands Ballroom at the Bilmar Beach Resort. $5 gets you unlimited beer sampling and plenty of free snacks from Sloppy Joe’s, 7pm to 9pm. Beer sampling from Great Bay Distributors. Tickets available for $5 per person in advance at the Recreation Department at Treasure Island City Hall or at the door.
