Elderly Florida Couple Dies After Driving Into Pond

HOLIDAY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly, Tampa Bay area couple died after their vehicle went into a pond.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 85-year-old Mary Wright Stucky was driving in a Holiday neighborhood Wednesday morning when she drove over the curb at the end of a cul-de-sac and into the pond. The car overturned and came to rest in about six feet of water.

Passers-by helped the woman out of the vehicle, but she later died at a nearby hospital.

FHP says the passenger, 88-year-old Samuel David Stucky, died at the scene. His body was still in the car when it was removed from the water.

The crash remains under investigation. It wasn’t immediately clear what made the woman drive off the road.
