CLEARWATER, Fla. (CBS TAMPA) — This goes beyond the “dog ate my homework” excuse.
Police say a Florida man broke into a tenant’s room on Oct. 29 and burned his possessions because the tenant’s pitbull ate his macaw.
Clearwater Police Public Information Officer Elizabeth Watts said Christopher E. Thrap felt driven to burn more than $1,000 of the victim’s property on the front lawn because his “expensive bird” was eaten by the victim’s dog.
Items incinerated include a television, mattress, clothing and assorted Christmas decorations.
Thrap is charged with burglary and felony criminal mischief. This is not the first time Thrap has been in trouble with the law. His rap sheet includes charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and several charges of failing to appear before the court.
