Cops: Florida Man Assaults 91-Year-Old With Billiards Ball

West Boca, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A Florida man is behind bars after he allegedly assaulted two men at a retirement community with a billiards ball.

Palm Beach County authorities say David Hartstein, 61, bashed the head of a 91-year-old man after accusing him of stealing from his locker.

According to police reports, witnesses at the Century Village Club in West Boca say they saw Hartstein approach the elderly man with a pool ball in his pocket and struck him on the head with it.

When another man came to his aid, Hartstein then attacked him with the pool ball.

Others present during the second attack were then able to restrain Hartstein until sheriff deputies arrived, according to the police report.

Both victims were taken to West Boca Medical Center. They both suffered cuts and bruises on their heads as a result of the attack.

According to police, Hartstein told deputies that “everyone there surrounded me, jumped me, and tried to steal my car.”

Hartstein also admitted to deputies that he has “unspecified mental issues for which he should take medication for and refuses to take.”

Hartstein is being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bond and has been charged with aggravated battery.
