Cops: Daytona Beach Man Stabs Caregiver Over Cable TV
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (CBS Tampa) – A Florida man is behind bars after allegedly trying to kill his caregiver because she denied him cable television.
Daytona Beach police arrested and charged 49-year-old Thomas Wilkes with attempted murder when police said he confessed to stabbing his caregiver, 70-year-old Justina Threadgill, who allegedly refused to fix his cable service, according to WOFL-TV.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Wilkes “just couldn’t take it anymore,” telling police her accent was frustrating to understand and that she nagged him about following the facility’s rules.
Just after breakfast Thursday morning, Wilkes found a kitchen knife and cornered Threadgill in her bedroom, where he repeatedly tried to slice her throat, the Sentinel reports.
Discovering that the knife was too dull, he began to choke her, police said.
Threadgill repeatedly begged for her life, she told detectives. Reportedly Wilkes called the dispatcher once Threadgill went limp saying, “I lost my mind.”
Threadgill is recovering from serious injuries at the Halifax Health Medical Center. Wilkes was held Thursday night without bail and has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.
