ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS Tampa) — Science fiction turned into a reality on the roadways thanks to the creative minds at Parker Brothers Custom Choppers, who have constructed the fantastic, futuristic bike made famous in the movie “TRON: Legacy.”

Believe it or not, the bikes, called “lightcycles,”  are more than just extremely sleek and powerful pieces of eye candy. They’re also eco-friendly.

Initially, the Melbourne-based shop developed a gas-powered version of the lightcycle, but the newly-released and remodeled version now sports an electric engine that can push the bike up to an impressive 100 mph.

“The electric version works better.  It’s lighter and can go faster.  Everyone is happier with it,” said owner Marc Parker.

The lightcycle is expected to run between $50,000 and $60,000.

Parker said his team built the fantasy ride because “everyone said it couldn’t be built.”

Now he plans to take on even more challenging projects. Although they’re not going to build a hoverboard from “Back to the Future” or an X-wing from “Star Wars,” they are looking into creating a flying motorcycle.  They’re also working on a line of electric sports bikes.

You can expect to see more projects from Parker Brothers Custom Choppers more frequently. “We got offered a TV series from the Syfy network and we’re going to have a few unique projects like a one man submarine,” said Parker.

The TV show “Dream Machines” will premiere in 2012.
